Phase 2: Site Investigations and Contamination Appraisals

If a Phase 1 Desk Study report finds that a Phase 2 Site Investigation is needed, the next stage involves a range of intrusive and non-intrusive techniques such as trial pitting, window sampling, cable percussive and rotary borehole to enable retrieval of soil / rock samples for logging, subsequent soil chemical analysis.

It is often required to discharge planning conditions, set by local authorities to remove objections and or support planning applications. 

A Phase 2 Site Investigation is only undertaken if the preliminary risk assessment has clearly identified sources of contamination that warrant further investigations of the ground.

At this stage, recovery of soil and groundwater samples from a site is carried out to analyse if contamination is present. The preliminary risk assessment is then reassessed based on any contamination that could be present. If deemed necessary, ground gas monitoring is carried out to find if any special protection measures are required in your building.

If a significant risk to human health or controlled water receptors such as rivers, streams or aquifers is identified, a remediation strategy will be recommended and a Phase 3 Report may be required.
